American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Plot
Follow Morgan, a single mother of three, and how her extraordinary mind enables her to help solve a crime as she organizes evidence in her turn as a cleaner at the police department. Despite his extremely high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of the mystery, Morgan makes a series of basic mistakes in the law that anyone who has ever watched a TV legal show would not know to make.
Remake of HPI (2021)
In the first episode, for example, he retrieves a document from a locked safe at the suspected victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court—illegally obtained evidence. Nor could it be used to obtain other evidence—violating the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In Episode 2, he has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at the crime scene, and in Episode 3, he removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making anything he removed inadmissible in court.
Olson digs her TV resume away from Always Sunny and tops her role on The Mick
Olson glides onto the screen in a no-nonsense remake of this French procedural, but he’s definitely up to it. episode you can tell Olson was drawn to this project for the way it portrays a struggling, body-owning, capable woman.
Comedy is sewn into his delivery, as is the tongue-in-cheek French take
What this series does better, however, is keep you engaged with a seasoned cast led by Judy Reyes, whose stern eyes and soft voice invite the viewer to develop a sense of empathy for the players her character wants to gather around her to seek justice. The first episode was well done, although the editing could use some work.
The series would be elevated by more scenes between Reyes and Olson
