Plot
Need a lawyer? He runs his law firm out of his Lincoln and is ready to hit the gas. As he moves around Los Angeles, he takes on cases while balancing his personal life, which includes fatherhood and living with two ex-wives. Originally scheduled for a series commitment by CBS in 2020, it was canceled shortly before the first episode began filming due to COVID.

Netflix has now picked it up for a 10-episode first season based on Mickey Haller’s second book, The Brass Verdict. Mickey Haller has several cars, all with personalized California license plates with legal terms on them. Personalized California license plates allow a maximum of seven letters/numbers, yet all of Mickey’s license plates have a minimum of eight. This is an entertaining first season of the series based on the novels by Michael Connelly.
The film manages to capture his deep humanity amidst his mistakes
The tandem of David Kelley and Ted Humphrey succeed in bringing to the screen the grim story of clever criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller, his colleagues, and his family. The viewer identifies with the ups and downs of Haller’s legal career. But one is impressed by his passion for the law and his genuine concern for his clients. Aside from Haller, all the other main characters are identifiable: Cisco, Lorna, Maggie, Trevor Elliott, Hayley, and even Detective Griggs.
Bring on season 2
The storylines are well thought out and quite entertaining. The twists and turns hold the viewer’s attention as the drama resonates. In particular, the way Haller is able to decipher the magic bullet that connects one crime to another and use it in court is ingenious. Serious students of criminal law and procedure will definitely appreciate The Law and the free tutorial it offers them.
