Plot
An up-and-coming chef and a recent divorcee, their lives are changed forever when a chance encounter brings them together in a decade-long, deeply moving romance. In its premiere due to other filming commitments, Andrew Garfield brought in a life-size cutout of her to fill her absence.. It takes us on their journey – a lovely one – with all the ups and downs and happy moments, as well as the breakdowns and real-life struggles the couple often face, including unexpected catastrophic news.
But it does so in a subtle and authentic way
The film features tender, pure and benevolent moments that create a warm atmosphere. Andrew Garfield fits his role perfectly, bringing charm and authenticity, and his performance is outstanding. The rest of the cast delivers convincing performances and the subtle humor makes it all the more appealing.
The constant time jumps left me with mixed feelings
It avoids cliche endings and is clever and efficient – not overly sentimental, but still satisfying. Although they weren’t completely effective, I believe they worked well here. In addition, some small details of the story were not convincing.
However, the film’s major flaw is its inability to evoke strong emotions
It lacks the deep connection that elevates it from a sweet love story to a more compelling drama. You connect with the characters, but the connection isn’t strong enough to cause sadness or shock at important moments. In summary, this is a solid love story – sweet, pure and complete.
However, it doesn’t reach the emotional highs that make a lasting impact
Although it could have benefited from a deeper emotional connection, I found it to still be a fun film – subtle, genuine and pure!
