Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely bestowed upon any film or screen production, especially an American one
Plot
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler finds herself thrust into a high-profile job she’s ill-suited to, which has implications for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life settings as filming locations for the series, including the still-newly-built American Embassy (Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.

One inaccessible location was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London, excluding Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming.
I’m so glad I did because it was great
I have to admit, I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat, but after hearing so many great things about it and reading all the great reviews, I thought I’d give it a shot. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I was hooked from the first episode
While Keri Russell was great in The Americans, I felt like it had more to do with the writing than her acting, so I wasn’t really sure if she and Rufus Sewell could pull off the lead roles in the series, but they do, they’re both fantastic here. The chemistry between these two is what makes this show so good.
I could definitely see this series winning some awards
